Clubs and Organizations
Even with TJ’s emphasis on academics, most students become involved in one or more major activities like the ones listed below. Some of the activities listed here are open to everyone, some are limited to certain grade levels, and some are by election or invitation.
All-School Play An all-student production takes place each fall. Students in grades 9 to 12 may participate as actors, designers, producers, and directors.
The Declaration The staff of the school newspaper consists of students from all grade levels. Available positions include editors, writers, and distributors, and the staff produces at least six issues during the year, using all student material.
Garden Club Members help maintain the TJ gardens and grounds.
Mock Trial This activity gives students practice in court procedures, rules of evidence, and oral argument, and the group enters local competitions.
Pandora This student-produced art and literary magazine puts out two issues per year.
Recycling Action Team Members help coordinate and promote recycling at the school.
Student Admissions Assistants Members give tours, host student visitors, and help with activities planned by the Admissions Department.
Student Activities Committee Members plan and facilitate activities throughout the year for the student body. The committee consists of students, parents, and the faculty adviser in addition to another faculty member.
Student Council Members are from all grade levels and chosen by student vote. The council sponsors activities, organizes student meetings, and acts as the liaison between faculty and students.
Yearbook The yearbook is an arts class and meets on Wednesday and Friday afternoons; other students may sign up for it as an extracurricular activity.
